TutorChatLive.org is a 501(c3) nonprofit organization that provides free, live, online tutoring to students in middle school and high school through volunteer tutors via a customized chat platform. Tutors can receive community service hours should they need them for graduation purposes, while students receive the help they need in classes at no cost. In addition to our tutoring services, we also foster a virtual academic community that encourages students and tutors to share their knowledge and interact with each other. This is done through fun and critical thinking discussions and activities that can be found in our Forum and Study Break pages.
To support secondary school students in achieving academic success by providing access to free, live, online tutoring and fostering an online academic community.
We envision an empowered student body with access to essential resources that facilitate students' academic success.
TutorChatLive.org was created to serve all students who struggle in school and cannot afford to pay for tutoring. As a junior in high school, company founder, Matthew Capeletti, realized that many of his peers were struggling from a lack of supplementary educational resources and he wanted to provide them with a free alternative that they could rely on after school. Consequently, the idea for TutorChatLive.org was born. The organization began operating in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in September of 2006, and underwent a period of growth. By early 2008, TutorChatLive.org employed 35 volunteer tutors and had received hundreds of chat requests. That same year, the organization received the prestigious Silver Knight Award in the category of General Scholarship for outstanding community service.
While a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania, Matt decided to move forward with TutorChatLive.org. He partnered with a classmate, and a few semesters later, joined the Wharton Venture Initiation Program, an educational incubator for student entrepreneurs. Today, the organization serves over 3,000 students, and, since its re-launch on February 2010, has received over 1,000 chat requests and offered over 400 hours of services.
TutorChatLive.org is proud of its diverse group of tutors. Our dedicated volunteers range from high school and college students, to Marines and university professors. Once a tutor applicant submits his application, he goes through a rigorous acceptance process to ensure his qualification in the subject areas of interest. This process includes verification of references, review of most recent report card, college transcript, or resume, a phone interview, and a background check. After the applicant is admitted as a tutor, he goes through an orientation and training process.
